Let’s take a moment to grasp together the thread that this artwork is holding out to us.
What if an artwork did not first try to capture our attention,
nor to produce a spectacular discourse,
but instead created the conditions for listening?
What if it did not ask us to speak louder,
but to slow down —
to allow something else to emerge?
When I discovered Justin’s installation,
A Window onto the World,
a very simple image immediately came to mind:
that of a space one can truly inhabit.
A space you can step into.
A space that tightens around you.
Almost enveloping.
A place that does not reveal itself all at once,
but is discovered from the inside.
A house.
A window.
A threshold.
Not to escape the world.
But to remain connected to it differently.
