Let’s take a moment to grasp together the thread that this artwork is holding out to us.
What if memory were not immobile?
What if it could transform into movement?
And what if, in order to move forward,
it sometimes had to set out on an improvised means of transport —
a simple ironing board,
launched onto rough waters,
hastily turned into a makeshift boat
to cross what resists?
And what if, despite the storms of the past,
something still kept searching for a heading?
When I discovered Lucas’s artwork, Eine Reise, porteur d’espoir
one question immediately imposed itself on me:
what do history, memory, lived experiences
do to our bodies, to our minds,
and to the way we look toward the future — together?
